Episode 9: Nicholas Habursky

John Carroll's Senior leader Nick Habursky discusses his past (being molded by former JCU harrier greats), present (training daily in the heat and studying for the LSAT) and future (being an elder statesman on a very young JCU team) in this, our 9th OAC Distance Cellular Talk Show.

John Carroll XC, 2008

2008 will be a rebuilding year for John Carroll. They lose their top 4 of Daniel DiRuzza, Jason Czerwinski, Brett Cumbo, and Michael Juker. Last year they finished 7th and they will need significant improvement from returning runners Sean Joyce (SR), Nicholas Habursky, and Michael Joseph (JR) if they are going to retain their current position in the conference.

Nicholas Habursky looks to be John Carroll’s front runner as he should dramatically improve upon his finish at the conference meet last year. He had a solid track season, running 9:25 for the 3k indoors, around 16:00 for 5k and 33:56 in the 10k outdoors. He is obviously capable of consistently running around 27:30 and returning varsity runners Joyce and Joseph will need to prove that they can as well if the Blue Streaks plan on competing with deeper Wilmington and Marietta teams.

We currently have no information regarding John Carroll’s incoming class, but their 4 and 5 scoring positions must be filled (we are hoping that John Carroll brings in a Cyril Pinchak this year). If not, 2008 may be a long season for the Blue Streaks.

The John Carroll coaching staff had their Seniors peforming well this past track season. Brett Cumbo was conference runner-up in the steeplechase and Daniel Diruzza placed 4th in the 1500. If they have similar success developing Habursky, Joyce, and Joseph they could have a competitive trio this fall.
